If someone is in danger now

Blackstone Health Services is not an emergency service. If you or someone else may be at immediate risk of harm, contact emergency services or go to the nearest hospital.

Emergency lines in Malawi are not always reliable. If a call does not connect, go in person to the nearest hospital or police station, and stay with the person if it is safe to do so. Outside Malawi, use your local emergency number.

More on getting urgent help

How it works

What to expect when you get in touch

Answers to the questions people most often ask before starting therapy, from the first message to what happens to your information.

Not sure where to start?Send a short message with a few lines about what is going on. We will explain the options. There is no obligation to book.

The four steps

Every inquiry follows the same path, whether it is for you, your relationship or your family.

  1. You get in touch

By form, email or phone. Tell us who the support is for and, briefly, what you are hoping for.

  2. We talk briefly

We check what you need and whether our service is suitable. If it is not, we suggest where to go instead.

  3. We agree a time

You receive available times, the session fee and payment instructions.

  4. Your first session

You join online from a private space. We focus on understanding your situation and goals.

Before you start

Do I need a referral or diagnosis?

No. You can contact us directly. You do not need a diagnosis, and you do not need to know exactly what is wrong.

Who can use your therapy services?

Adults aged 18 and over. In couples and family therapy, every participant must be 18 or older. We do not currently provide therapy for children or adolescents.

Can I have therapy if I live outside Malawi?

You are welcome to inquire. Whether we can work with you depends on suitability, scheduling and any professional requirements that apply where you live. We will tell you during the initial conversation.

How do I know whether I need therapy or coaching?

Therapy addresses mental health, emotional well-being and relationship difficulties. Coaching focuses on development, leadership and performance and does not replace mental health care. If you are unsure, tell us what is going on and we will recommend the appropriate service.

Sessions

What happens in the first session?

The first session is mostly about understanding: what has brought you, what is happening in your life and what you would like to be different. You can share as much or as little as you are ready to. Together you agree how to proceed.

How are sessions held?

Online, by video call. You receive the joining details when your appointment is confirmed. Find a private, quiet place where you will not be overheard, and use headphones if that helps.

How long does therapy last?

It depends on what you are working on. Some people come for a few sessions; others continue for longer. You and your therapist review progress together, and you can decide to stop at any time.

How long is each session?

Individual sessions last one hour. Couples and family sessions last one hour and forty-five minutes.

Fees and payment

How much does it cost?

Individual psychotherapy is MK 50,000 per session, couples therapy MK 100,000 and adult family therapy MK 200,000. See all fees

How do I pay?

Payment instructions, including banking details, are shared directly with you after the initial conversation, once the appointment has been agreed. We never ask for payment details through the website form.

What if I need to reschedule?

Let us know as early as you can. Rescheduling and cancellation terms are explained when your appointment is arranged.

Privacy and safety

Is what I say confidential?

Yes, within the limits that apply to all counselling professionals. Confidentiality may need to be set aside only where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or where disclosure is required by law. These limits are explained before therapy begins. Privacy and confidentiality

What happens to the information I send through the form?

It is sent by email to our inquiries inbox and used only to respond to you. Keep the message brief; you can share more detail in conversation.

What should I do in a crisis?

Do not wait for a reply from us. Call 998 for an ambulance or 997 for the police in Malawi, or go to the nearest hospital. Urgent help
